This will only affect a few folks, but we wanted them all to see it, so we decided to post it here.
A few members have been experiencing problems watching the streams on Smoking Flicks.
Basically, we encoded the videos for the highest quality possible for cable/DSL users – but some cable and DSL connections are not quite as “good” as they should be. In other words, “not all 1 Meg connections are created equal.”
The solution: we are in the process of re-encoding all of our videos so that people with this situation will be able to watch them. It should also take care of one or two people’s codec-related issues.
The problem: re-encoding all the videos, even with two encoders working 24 hours a day, will take quite a while. And if we replace them “one by one,” then people who have had this problem won’t know which videos will work for them and which won’t.
So we are going to wait until all of the videos are re-encoded, and then switch them all at once.
That means that if you are one of the few people having a problem watching videos, you will continue to have
the problem until mid-January or so, when we can switch all of the video streams to the new ones. The time you have purchased on Smoking Flicks will not expire. So you can still use your existing minutes when the new videos are online.
We had tested the system quite a bit without discovering this issue – for those few affected – our apologies.
BUT MOST IMPORTANT: most people are currently able to watch the streams without problems – and this does not affect the download of complete videos
So if you haven’t given it a try yet, please visit us at Smoking Flicks – before you sign up, though, just be sure to click on the test link to make sure you will be able to see the streaming video – if not, that’s ok – you can always download the video of your choice!
