Living part of the year in San Diego, this story obviously hits us harder than most people. But we pass along the news that they are about to ban smoking on all beaches and in all parks in the entire city of San Diego, because we’re reminded of the skeptical responses we got from lots of people five years ago when we moved here.
“Why on earth would you move to the worst venue in the world for smoking?” we were asked. “You can’t even smoke in bars there!”
“We’re moving for personal reasons, but trust us, it won’t be long before most of the rest of America follows suit with the same smoking bans and things will be just as bad everywhere else.”
“You’re crazy. It could never happen here!”
We hate to say it, folks, but it has. And it will continue.
