In the early-mid 1970s, scientists and climatologists were sounding alarm bells – the world’s climate was cooling at a scary rate. (All of the major news magazines trumpeted the crisis on their covers at one point.)
Also in the 1970s, the world had just seen the highest generational rates (50s,60s, early 70s) of smoking in history.
Fast forward to the 2000s.
Scientists and climatologists are sounding alarm bells – the world’s climate is warning at a scary rate. (All of the major news magazines trumpeted the crisis on their covers and more than one point.)
Also in the 200s, the world is seeing the largest drop in smoking rates in history.
We don’t pretend to be climatologists, scientists, or experts on “global warming.” We have our doubts – but we we also know enough to know that we don’t know enough to offer a valid opinion on it.
What we do know that this is a man who desperately wants to be President – a man who once bragged while campaigning in tobacco states in 1988: “Throughout most of my life, I raised tobacco. I want you to know that with my own hands, all of my life, I put it in the plant beds and transferred it. I’ve hoed it. I’ve dug in it. I’ve sprayed it, I’ve chopped it, I’ve shredded it, spiked it, put it in the barn and stripped it and sold it” – a man who knows that he now needs to cultivate the liberal base to have any hopes of winning the 2008 nomination – and now a man who claims that rapidly declining smoking rates around the world are responsible for destroying the ozone layer.
