First, we’re grateful to the majority of California voters, who were able to see through the bull and reject a proposal that would have added an additional $3.00 per pack in cigarette taxes – they realized that only 10% of the billions of dollars raised would have gone to anti-smoking programs, and the rest would have gone to the sponsors of the proposal. Thanks also to the tobacco companies, whose funding (along with that of a number of California medical associations helped to defeat the proposal.
Second, a note that tonight at 10pm on the History Channel, a new program called “Tobacco” debuts. We obviously have no idea about whether it’ll be worth watching for sightings – but we’d think that at the very least they’ll have footage of flappers and television commercials worth watching
