So, we had a chance to spend a few days in Las Vegas last week. Regular readers of Smoke Signals magazine ( available to members at Smoke Signals Online ) know that in recent years, our visits to Vegas have resulted in fewer and fewer quality sightings each time, leading us to the conclusion that even in the “sin” capital of the world, smoking is on the decline.
As soon as we stepped off the plane, we knew that this was a different Las Vegas than we’d ever seen before; the recently enacted anti-smoking ordinances had led to the closing of the wonderful smoking lounges in McCarran Airport, and new no-smoking signs were everywhere. But the full impact didn’t hit us until we got to our hotel; the only public areas where smoking is still allowed is on the casino floors, and the ubquitous signs: “entering a smoking zone” and “entering a no-smoking zone” were continual, stark reminders that even Las Vegas has entered the anti-smoking world.
We did actually have some nice sightings, since we were there to meet with some of the people in the “adult” industry who were attending their annual contention – and beautiful women who work in the adult industry still smoke in abundance.
But overall, it was our most depressing trip to Vegas yet.
