There are a handful of people who’ve contacted us, saying that the site used to work for them beautifully, but that things have recently changed.
Usually, those people have done one (or both) of two things:
- upgraded to Vista
- upgraded to Windows Media Player 11

Well, here’s what’s happening.
Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, released Vista and WMP 11 without making sure that they were fully compatible with each other and with Microsoft’s streaming software platform (which is what we use at Smoking Flicks).
They’ve finally admitted their mistake, and promise “fixes” for everything by the end of the summer. (First they said May, then they said June, now it’s the end of summer.)

However, in the meantime, we’ve been able to get just about everyone with this problem up and running again.
The easiest thing to do if you are using Windows XP and the new WMP 11, is just to roll back to WMP 10. You can do that as an option from the add/remove programs section of your control panel.
If you’re using Vista (which requires WMP 11) – you can usually resolve the program by going through the instructions to clear your DRM files, which are on the FAQ page of Smoking Flicks. There are also several hacks on the web to let you use WMP 10 with Vista, but we can’t (for obvious reasons) recommend that you try a hack found on the web.
