We had to wonder yesterday – we were poking through various online smoking fetish chatrooms and happened across an argument between two guys. One asked the other what and how much he smoked – and after he answered, the first basically called him a liar and a fake.
Aside from the question of why the first male cared about the second one’s smoking preferences – we had to wonder, as we looked at the list of more than a dozen supposed women who alleged were into all imaginable variations of the fetish – how a guy in a smoking fetish chatroom could focus on the men as liars and fakes? While we would never say that every female name in a smoking fetish chatroom has a male behind the keyboard, we think that most people would agree that most of the “women” are really men.
We would guess (although we don’t pretend to understand the psychology of the whole thing) that most of the men who talk with the “women” are OK with the game, since it’s allowing them to play out their fantasies – and that the guys who pretend to be women do so in order to make sure they can have a conversation about their specific sub-fetishes as well.
But it left us with one question: with so many men pretending to be women in the smoking fetish chats – why would any guy focus on the truth of another guy’s statements?
There’s nothing important in all of this of course – but it’s just one more thing that we find baffling, and fascinating, about our community
